As economic times cause worry and frustration, it’s time to examine what you’re doing to ensure that your business and you, stay healthy and profitable. Here are three steps you can take right away to lift your spirits and make a meaningful impact for yourself and others. 

1. Focus on what makes you happy and what you can control. Worrying about how a congressman will vote expends mental and physical energy that you cannot retrieve. Grab a piece of paper and list the things you are worried about right now that you cannot control. Then ball the list up and arc it gracefully into the nearest trash can. Worrying about what you cannot control cannot make you stronger or better.

2. Make deeper connections with the people around you. Think of three business associates who would benefit from a cup of coffee and some encouraging words. Be proactive and make a date with each of them. Approach each meeting with the intention to cheer them up, and see what change that makes for you.

3. Envision a powerful and abundant future. Take thirty minutes to write down what life, professionally and personally, will look like six months from today. What will you be proud of? What will you have accomplished? What will you be planning on that date? Make that future happen!

Implement these three action steps now. A client recently asked “When would be the right time for me to quit smoking?” I answered, “When do you want to start living your life?”
