Tis the Season (Final Thoughts)
If you’re picking up this story and haven’t read
parts one and two, please visit

first two installments!
Charities solicit donations throughout the year, but
the real push comes around the time Rudolph
accumulates that dust on his nose at the local
Walgreens. It must be incredibly frustrating for a
family living through hard times to see ostentatious
displays of wealth, knowing that anything beyond the
simplest gifts are the stuff of dreams.
In the weeks ahead, each of us will likely find
ourselves at the mall or on-line, shopping for a
“must have” item for a loved one. We’ll puzzle over
the correct color, or style, wishing that the choice
wasn’t so perplexing. The “perfect” gift is ever
elusive and we’ll probably outspend our limits in
its pursuit. When you’re up to your ears in holiday
spirit, remember to pick out some gifts for people
you will never know. Shampoo for a man in a homeless
shelter who needs clean hair for a job interview. A
baby carriage for the mother of twins, alone and
worried about what the coming day will bring. A gift
basket for a family on hard times – bought by
someone unnamed but delivered by you.
Maybe this is the season of getting after all.
Getting the joy from knowing your generosity has
touched lives you’ll never know. Getting the riches
of lifting those less fortunate above the maddening
fray. Getting the peace we all so richly deserve.
