Build Your Success Team

How many people does it take to run a one-person business? That’s a question I’ve pondered lately as I see myself get busier with the details and big picture of Faber Communications. I do my own accounting, marketing, creative writing and performing, keynote speaking, coaching and training. It’s a whirlwind at times, made all the more frenetic when you factor in one wife, two kids, and a home with perpetual fix-up needs.

The answer? It takes hundreds, if not thousands of people to run a one-person business. Not that you’ll find the corridors and cubicles here at world headquarters jammed with minions and sycophants (although a couple would be nice!) More so, it’s the connections business people make with each other that form the backbone of any successful enterprise. Who you network with, who you eat lunch with, and who you’re introduced to all make up that backbone.

In turn, that backbone reaches out to all the connections those people have, and so forth and so on. In a recent conversation at CSG Systems in Englewood Colorado, a young woman joked that “six degrees of separation” have now been narrowed to “three degrees”. I couldn’t agree more.
